How we work
We are a mobile locksmith. We come to you.
What brings this up
A lock replacement comes up when a key starts binding, the cylinder feels rough, the parts are worn, or a lock no longer matches the door it is on. We see this on homes, storefronts, and vehicles across Lancaster County, from Ephrata to Akron and Denver. Some customers want one lock changed after a break-in or a lost key, while others replace a set that has seen years of use. We come to you and handle the lock where it sits, without sending you somewhere else with it.
What we look at first
Before we change anything, we look at the lock style, the door or panel it sits in, and the way the cylinder is built. We check whether the lock is rim, mortise, or bored cylindrical, and whether the body can take a cylinder change or needs the lock replaced as a whole. We also look at the key that has been used, signs of wear, and any mismatch between the lock and the door hardware. That lets us choose the right approach before any parts come out.
The work, and where it stops
The work itself is direct. We open the lock, take out the old lock or cylinder, and fit the new one in its place. Where the lock body stays in use, we change the cylinder and leave the rest in place. What we do not do is machine a cylinder, mill, ream, bush, file, or cut a keyway. We do not turn the job into door, jamb, or frame work. The scope stays on the lock assembly and the parts inside it.
Worth knowing
Old cylinders, worn lock bodies, and damaged cores come out. New cylinders or new locks go in, matched to the hardware already on the door or panel. If the customer has spare keys that still match the new setup, those keys stay with the customer and remain part of the set. If a spare is worn, bent, or no longer fits the new cylinder, it is set aside and not used. The finished work stays centered on the lock and the key in it.

Questions about lock replacement in Lancaster County
I lost the only key to my back door deadbolt, so what do you actually change there?
We either change the cylinder inside that deadbolt or take out the lock and fit a new one, depending on what is on the door and what condition it is in. We check how the key enters, how the thumbturn feels, and whether the bolt is rubbing or hanging up. Tell us if that door sticks, sags, or needs extra pressure to lock.
My office entry lock is worn out. Which parts of the door do you work on?
We work on the lock itself, not the door around it. That means removing the existing lock or changing its cylinder, then fitting the replacement hardware to the same lock position on the door. We do not alter the door, frame, hinges, or door edge. Tell us whether it is a bored cylindrical lock, a rim lock, or a mortise lock.
I took over a storefront and want the front door changed, but do you replace the whole lock or just the middle part?
It depends on the lock that is already on that front door. Some jobs are a cylinder change, where the keyed part is removed and replaced. Other jobs are full lock replacement, where the entire lock body comes off the door and a new one is fitted in its place. Tell us if you want the inside trim changed too, not just the keyed section.
My apartment door lock turns rough inside, so does this cover fixing the mechanism or only swapping parts?
Fixing the inside of the lock is lock repair, which is a separate service we also do. Lock replacement covers removing the lock and fitting a new one, or changing the cylinder, but it does not include machining the existing cylinder or rebuilding the internal mechanism. If the key drags, the thumbturn binds, or the bolt feels gritty, tell us exactly which part does it.
