How we work

We are a mobile locksmith. We come to you.

The call

A house lock issue in Upland usually reaches us after the key has already been tried in more than one lock and the deadbolt still will not move, or the key turns partway and stops. Sometimes the caller has already checked the key for bending, tried the spare, or worked the knob while pushing on the door. We come to you and look at residential lock work on site, including cylinders, deadbolts, and keys on the door that is giving trouble in Upland.

What we check first

Before we touch anything, we check the lock body, the key, the strike, the strike pocket, and the reinforcement plates around it. We look for screws that have loosened, a bolt that is dragging, or a cylinder that sits crooked in a bored lock. That first check decides whether we are opening a lock, adjusting the strike, or changing the cylinder and key parts. In Upland, that matters because the hardware itself tells us where the bind starts.

The work itself

At the door, we open the lock, work the cylinder, or remove and reset the hardware that needs attention. If the strike is out of line, we adjust the strike and its pocket, then set it back with long screws and reinforcement plates where needed. If the key is the issue, we fit the cylinder and key work to the lock body already in the door. We keep to the lock parts only, with no carpentry on the frame or door, including homes in Upland and nearby Swarthmore.

What changes afterwards

When the work is finished, the change is in the hardware, not in the wood around it. A replaced cylinder gives the lock new internal parts and a different key pattern, while an adjusted strike changes how the bolt meets the opening in the pocket. Long screws and a reinforcement plate can hold that setup more firmly against daily use. The lock keeps the same door, but the bolt, strike, and key side now sit in a different relationship.

Worth knowing

If you can tell us the key turns partway and stops, or turns but does not pull the latch back, we start by looking at the cylinder, the tailpiece, and the deadbolt body before anything else. A key that feels rough may point to worn cuts or a sticky plug, while a knob that spins without moving the bolt points us toward the drive parts in the lockset. On a home in Upland, that changes whether we work on the cylinder, rekey the lock, or replace the deadbolt parts.

If you say the door opens only when you lift or pull on it, we look first at the strike, the strike pocket, and the way the bolt enters the frame. That tells us whether the latch is catching the edge of the strike, whether the deadbolt is hitting high or low, or whether the long screws and reinforcement plate have loosened and let the hardware shift. We can then focus on the strike plate, tighten the mount, or rebuild the support around the opening.

If the problem is a key that was lost, copied badly, or marked by wear, we approach it as a key and cylinder job before anything else. That helps us decide whether to rekey the lock, swap the cylinder, or check the deadbolt for a loose plug and a damaged keyway. If you have a spare key that works better than the one in daily use, that tells us the cuts are part of the issue and keeps us from spending time on the strike or door edge first.

Questions

My front door deadbolt sticks when I turn the key in Upland, and the key feels rough.

The cylinder may be worn, the key may be mismatched, or the deadbolt may be out of line. We check the lock, cylinder, and deadbolt together, then adjust or replace the parts that need it. If the strike is off, we can reset the strike and its pocket and add reinforcement plates or long screws.

I need the back door rekeyed after a move, and I only have one house key.

We can rekey the lock so the old keys no longer match it. We work on house locks, cylinders, deadbolts, and keys on the door itself. If the hardware is loose, we can tighten the lockset and check the strike plate, so the key and the latch meet the way they should at the door.

The latch on my side door keeps catching, and the key only turns partway.

The latch and deadbolt may be binding in the strike area, or the cylinder may be worn. We look at the lock, the strike, and the pocket together, then replace or reset the parts that fit the opening. We can also install reinforcement plates and long screws to support the hardware on the door.

I kept jiggling my front door key and spraying oil into the deadbolt before calling; why did that make it worse?

It can pack debris deeper into the cylinder and leave the keyway slick enough to hide the real binding point. Repeated force can also bend the key, which makes the lock harder to read and harder to turn cleanly. We open the lock, then check the cylinder, deadbolt, and strike for wear before deciding what needs attention.

After I tried prying my side door latch with a screwdriver, why did the key stop turning so far?

The pry pressure can shift the strike, loosen the plate, or distort the latch enough to make the bolt drag inside the pocket. Once that happens, the key may feel like the problem when the door alignment has changed. We look at the lock, the strike, and the screws together, then correct the parts that are binding.
